Regina’s German community was on their feet at the German Club for a FIFA World Cup game.
Germany broke a 1-1 tie as Toni Kroos scored in the last seconds, making the final score 2-1.
Patrick Ullrich, who’s from Germany but now lives in Regina, said he was shocked at how many soccer fans the city holds.
“I’m actually surprised there’s so many soccer fans in Canada. Everybody says hockey and football are the big ones, but there is a lot of soccer fans,” he said.
Another fan from Germany, Daniela Aubichon, had her newborn baby with her at the club. Her newborn had a bit of a hard time sleeping with all the noise.
“It’s fun, ’cause the excitement is a little different than sitting at home and watching it by yourself. The energy is there,” Aubichon said.
“As you can tell, it’s pretty loud and good,” she said with a laugh as the club lit up in cheers.
The win leaves Germany in second place behind Mexico in their group.
