Doug Ford supports Premier Moe in fight against carbon tax

Another Canadian leader is showing his disdain for the federal carbon tax.

Ontario’s premier-designate Doug Ford ran on a platform which fought against the cap-and-trade system in that province, before ultimately winning the leadership race earlier this month.

Looking on from Saskatchewan, Premier Scott Moe said Ford’s win proves many Canadians don’t want the carbon tax.

“The people of Ontario, like many people across Canada, are starting to realize that this is a payment that we will have to make and it doesn’t actually reduce emissions,” Moe explained.

“I think it’s Canadians coming to the realization that it’s a flawed policy that, at the end of the day, costs Canadians money.”

In April, Saskatchewan turned to the provincial court of appeal, challenging Ottawa’s plan to impose a carbon tax on provinces which do not meet federal standards on their own.

In recent days, Ford has told reporters he supports the court action and mentioned he might do the same.

Alberta’s United Conservative Party leader Jason Kenney is also opposed to the policy.

If he wins Alberta’s next provincial election, there would be three provincial leaders vocally against the carbon tax.
