Just spitballing here, but what if the Saskatchwan Roughriders had acquired quarterback James Franklin in the offseason?
Lots of us media pundits believed Franklin could be the next great CFL quarterback and we were certain Saskatchewan would lure him away from the Edmonton Eskimos.
Instead, the Roughriders didn’t even nibble.
And Franklin, a pending free agent, was dealt to the Toronto Argonauts.
It’s kind of early to say undoubtedly that he will be a stellar replacement for injured veteran Ricky Ray, but Franklin looked pretty good Saturday in his first start for the Argos when they upset his former team.
Meanwhile, the expensive quarterback with a history of concussions — Zach Collaros — is out of Saskatchewan’s lineup with a concussion.
His understudies, unproven Brandon Bridge and rookie David Watford, are yo-yoing as quarterbacks while Saskatchewan’s offence struggles.
Hindsight is always 20/20, but it could have been different.
