The land of living skies was living up to its name Monday.
Along with heat warning across the southern parts of the province, Environment Canada has also issued a severe thunderstorm watch for many of the similar areas. Tornado warnings were put in place for many areas in the province’s southwest corner, with potential tornadoes around Willow Bunch and Coronach.
These storms can produce damaging wind gusts, hail and heavy rain.
A warm front located over northern Montana is advancing northeast into southern Saskatchewan, bringing along the extreme weather.
Environment Canada said it’s a dangerous and potentially life-threatening situation.
In the event of a tornado, people are asked to go inside to a room on the lowest floor of the building and stay away from walls or windows.
As of 7:30 p.m. Monday, all tornado warnings had ended with only watches still in place for the Estevan and Assiniboia areas.
Along with severe thunderstorm and tornado watches, heat warnings continue to blanket southern Saskatchewan.
Daily temperatures are expected to be above 32 C and overnight temperatures above 16 C for Monday and Tuesday in areas like Regina and Moose Jaw.
Environment Canada is reminding people to be safe and monitor for symptoms of heat stroke and heat exhaustion. The symptoms include high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting and unconsciousness.
The elderly and small children are most at risk.
