Regina police have asked for an independent oversight and review into the investigation of a fatal motorcycle crash on June 30.
Police said Friday further investigation has revealed the 26-year-old Grenfell man who died wasn’t wearing a helmet and was pursued by officers before the crash.
Around 4 p.m. that day, an officer driving westbound on Victoria Avenue noticed the man driving eastbound without a helmet with a passenger on the back.
The police officer changed directions, trying to pull the bike over.
The man briefly stopped to let his passenger off, then sped away from police, prompting a pursuit.
Due to the chase, the Regina Police Service has asked the Ministry of Justice to appoint an independent observer to its investigation.
The oversight and review will be done by the ministry’s appointee.
The office of the chief coroner will also continue the death investigation.
