Regina police continue to stress the importance of preventing theft after more than 80 vehicles were stolen already this month.
Police said 85 cars, 23 of them being Honda or Acura Models, were reported as stolen in the city between July 1 and 17.
According to statistics over the past three years, Honda and Acura models between the years of 1990 and 2005 are consistently within the top five most commonly stolen vehicles. Police are encouraging owners of those models to ensure they secure the vehicles.
Roughly one-third of the auto thefts reported in July involved keys either stolen to gain entry, left inside vehicles or the engines were left running.
Police advise people to always lock their vehicle’s doors, do not leave a vehicle running unattended, to use a steering-wheel locking device and to remove all valuables.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call Regina police at 306-777-6500.
