A lot is on the line with Johnny Manziel’s deal to Montreal for those with the Alouettes.
Head Coach Mike Sherman admitted one of the first things he said to Manziel was ‘this has to work,’ and he’s definitely right.
Jobs is the number one thing on the line. General Manager Kavis Reed knows he’s putting his job on the line by giving up so much for a few offensive linemen and Manziel.
Sherman doesn’t want to be a one and done head coach.
And of course, Manziel is trying to show the NFL he’s clean and can play again.
It’s also a chance Montreal can reclaim some of a fan base that has slowly been depleted since the team stopped winning after Anthony Calvillo’s retirement. The team hasn’t made the playoffs since 2014 and Manziel could spark that excitement that surrounded Molson Stadium.
Sherman’s quote didn’t end at ‘this has to work’. He followed that up by saying to Manziel ‘this will work.’
If it does. It means Manziel is everything we’ve been sold and that will be fun to watch.
Of course, you’re allowed to remain skeptical.
