It’s Calgary week for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Finally, a western opponent pops up on the schedule for the Roughriders after starting the season with five straight games against the East.
And the first one against their own division is up against the team I get most excited to see on the schedule.
It’s the ability to gauge the Roughriders against the best. Calgary has been that for the better part of a decade, consistently winning 12, 13, 14 games and sometimes more.
But the history of this recent rivalry goes back to Henry Burris going to Calgary in free agency in 2005. The Riders would beat the Stamps in the playoffs in 2007, ’09, ’10, and ’13. The Stamps won in dramatic fashion in 2012. Plus aside from Burris, we’ve had Nik Lewis, Jermaine Copeland, Jon Cornish, and now Bo Levi Mitchell as great villains for Rider Nation.
The Riders face the Stampeders three times this season, and that couldn’t make me happier.
