Chris Jones can’t do much right can he — at least not in the eyes of the fans.
Fans celebrated when the Riders went all in after the Eskimos won the Grey Cup in 2015 to bring on the Grey Cup head coach as the czar of football as VP/general manager/head coach/defensive coordinator.
The mad scientist would take the Riders — a terrible 3-15 team — and make them a champion because he’s won everywhere he’s been in the CFL.
So far, he’s left Rider Nation wanting more but this week shows just how bad Jones credibility as a leader has fallen in the eyes of the fans.
They didn’t like when Jones signed Duron Carter and now hate him more for releasing him. Then fans were equally miffed that they let go Rob Bagg, have some fans not impressed with the vision of the manager for bringing back a guy he just cut.
It’s what happens when the team is losing. The coach/general manager/vice-president of football operations get the heat. Maybe Jones having those three jobs makes feels three times warmer than usual on Jones seat.
But at least the defensive coordinator seems to have his stuff together.
No matter, a win on Sunday over the hated Stamps and Jones may just be a genius again.
