For the second game in a row, Chris Jones’ defence made Bo Levi Mitchell look average.
Watching Jones’ mastery of the defensive game plan in the games against Calgary, despite a 24-0 deficit a few weeks ago, should give Rider fans hope that a 4-4, inconsistent start to the season will start to trend in the positive.
I see those steps being made, with back to back wins over Hamilton there was improvement… then against Calgary they held in and made life tough on Bo. Then against Edmonton, Mike Reilly couldn’t really get a handle against Chris Jones defense and Zach Collaros looked a little rusty after four weeks on the injured list.
Then after the bye week and a big move to cut Duron Carter’s attitude seemed to bolster the team. Jones was not going to take it anymore when it came to lazy plays or stupid penalties. Carter was made an example of and it clearly got everyone’s attention.
If you’re not sold or cautiously optimistic, I see a reason to be more than that, although I’ll default to Chris Jones postgame thoughts.
Don’t anoint them to the Grey Cup this week, there is a lot of football left.
