Please, no. Not yet!
Junior hockey teams across Saskatchewan are sending out photographs on their social media accounts, showing the ice inside their home arenas to remind us they have begun training camps for the 2018-19 season. No offence. We like hockey. And the designs on the ice look very nice.
But many of us are reluctant to acknowledge the intra-squad games or wander into the arena to watch a scrimmage. It’s chilly in those rinks.
There are still nine days left in August! Yeah, we know night-time temperatures are dropping near zero, some trees are turning yellow and a few Saskatchewanians noticed frost on the ground last week. CFL teams are about midway through their seasons and the Toronto Blue Jays haven’t finished purging their roster.
It’s prime golf season, with the LPGA event starting tomorrow at the Wascana Country Club. We’re hanging onto summer at least until NHL teams start their training camps the week after Labour Day.
Hockey is a winter sport. Wait your turn, hockey season.
