Regina police said a man who tried to give two people a ride into the city wound up being carjacked and having his vehicle stolen and crashed.
Officers were called out early Saturday morning to Prince of Wales Drive and Arcola Avenue in the east end for a report of two men fighting in the street. A passer-by had been tipped off that someone was trying to steal a vehicle.
When police arrived, they saw a silver Jeep turn onto Arcola and speed away. They found a man walking down the street who said his vehicle had been stolen.
The victim told police he had given a man and a woman a ride into the city and then asked them to get out at the intersection. He alleged the pair tried to steal his backpack as they left the vehicle. He got out to confront them and got into a physical fight with the man as the woman got into the driver’s seat of his vehicle before driving both away.
A short time later, police got a call about a silver Jeep being involved in a crash at Ninth Avenue North and Winnipeg Street. Officers arrested a 28-year-old woman and 30-year-old man as they tried to flee the scene of the crash.
