Brad Marchand took all of 54 minutes of the Boston Bruins season to prove yet again how a great and talented player ruins his reputation by repeated steps back to his status as a rat.
Marchand flipped off his gloves and threw a few punches that bloodied Lars Eller of the Washington Capitals.
Shortly before, Eller offended Marchand’s sensibilities by daring to celebrate a 7-0 goal on a night that had the Capitals raise their Stanley Cup banner, in a stadium that was white hot with elation as the Capitals season couldn’t have gotten off to a better start.
Eller, if you don’t know, is not a fighter. Nowhere close. Perfect prey for Marchand who has fought Steven Stamkos, Roman Josi, PK Subban and Mike Ribeiro in his career.
What a tough guy.
I would have loved to see what he would have done if an actual guy who knew how to throw a punch had scored that seventh goal. Oh, right, it’s Marchand he would have likely slew footed him from behind like the coward he is.
