Two nights into the NHL season and it’s already soooooo easy to be sick of hearing about Auston Matthews and John Tavares of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Yes, they’re great players. But listening and watching over and over and over again about how great they shoot, how they reworked their shot and how many steps they took to get into position . . . isn’t that a little much, even from the Toronto-centric media who cover them?
It’s easy to be bitter if you’re not a Leafs fan. And contrary to the opinion of Leafs fans, not everybody in Canada cheers for Toronto. There are six other Canadian-based teams who now will receive less attention because the Leafs are considered Stanley Cup contenders. Everything the Leafs do is going to be overly documented. Oh, no! Matthews has the sniffles!
Toronto has always been the centre of the universe when it comes to Canadian news and sports. And the Leafs are particularly galling in that regard. Just think how unbearable things will get if the Leafs actually win!
