More than 1,000 professors, instructors and librarians at the University of Regina are voting on a potential strike mandate this week.
While students may have been hearing about the possibility of a strike affecting classes, the U of R Faculty Association (URFA) said there will be no immediate job action. The intention is to have a strike mandate as an option during negotiations when they return to the bargaining table with the university.
The prior contract agreement for the academic staff on campus expired on June 30, 2017 and the union has been involved in active negotiations since April 2018.
According to updates posted on the URFA website, the major outstanding issues in the bargaining process include things like: salaries, pension and benefits as well as the ration of faculty professors to sessional instructors along with a new merit and peer review system for tenure positions.
The results of the vote are expected to be released early next week.
