The mayors of Regina and Winnipeg are placing a friendly bet on Sunday’s playoff game.
Michael Fougere told 980 CJME they’ve decided to heat things up ahead of what’s going to be a chilly match at Mosaic Stadium.
Should the Riders win, the Winnipeg sign will be lit in “beautiful Rider green,” and if the Blue Bombers are “lucky enough to win,” he said Mosaic Stadium will be lit up in their “ugly blue and gold.”
“(Winnipeg Mayor Brian) Bowman and I are good friends and we’ve had wagers in the past, with the Labour Day Classic and the Banjo Bowl,” Fougere told 980 CJME Friday afternoon.
“We just thought, ‘Let’s do something a little bit different — more high profile and a little more fun.'”
When it comes to Bomber fans, Fougere said he has one message for them while they’re in the Queen City on game day.
“They’re going to have a hard time here and it’s going to be difficult to win at Mosaic Stadium — and we have the best fans in the CFL, so the place will be rocking. I suspect we will be moving on to the western final, ” he joked.
“Rider Nation green in Winnipeg is going to look fantastic.”
Kick off in Regina on Sunday is 3:30 p.m.
