It’s shaping up to be a busy 2019 at Evraz Place.
Regina Exhibition Association Limited (REAL), the group that operates Evraz Place, wants to do an assessment of all their facilities to go along with the many events it has planned for the year.
Tim Reid, president and CEO of REAL, said there are already 21 events planned for the Brandt Centre.
“The challenge with the entertainment industry is it starts with somebody putting a hold on your venue and then — somewhere between the hold and tickets going on sale — it gets finalized,” Reid said.
Reid said there’s also things in the works to have another big show at Mosaic Stadium.
“Right now we’ve got a few holds in the summer and I feel very confident that we will have at least one of them to announce this summer,” Reid said.
He said now is the time for Regina to show they want to be involved in the events.
“This is the time for Regina to come out and support events because ultimately it comes down to ticket sales. If we can’t sell tickets to shows, promoters will stop bringing opportunities to us and I think we’ve done a great job with our entertainment team of saying we want to be the home for entertainment.”
He said they’ve also heard from the public, indicating they want to see more shows in the city.
And it’s not just shows Evraz Place has its eye on — REAL is working with the Riders and city on a bid to host the Grey Cup.
“Going into future years, something like the Grey Cup is critical to the success of our building. If we’re not bringing new major events to this site, our business model just doesn’t work,” Reid said.
He said the biggest positive to holding the Grey Cup at Evraz Place is that a person can enjoy the game and then walk 60 steps to “the greatest Grey Cup festival perhaps in all of Canada.”
