A 24-year-old woman from Regina has died in a collision involving a deer and a semi on Highway 1, east of Mortlach.
Officers responded to reports that a semi had pulled over after hitting a deer around 9 p.m. Thursday. The deer was hurt and went back onto the road and into the path of traffic.
The initial investigation leads police to believe a passenger vehicle swerved to avoid the deer, collided with the back of the parked semi and flipped.
The driver of that vehicle, a 24-year-old woman from Regina was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger in the vehicle, a 28-year-old man, also from Regina was a passenger in the vehicle. He was injured taken to hospital but has since been released. The driver of the semi was not hurt.
Ministry of Highway officials worked at the scene to divert traffic. The highway reopened at approximately 3:25 a.m. Friday morning.
Officers are continuing to investigate the crash, at this point impairment is not believed to be a factor in this collision.
