As freezing rain frustrated drivers Wednesday morning, leaving cars and streets encased in ice, one man in east Regina decided to make the best of the situation in a very Canadian fashion.
Darwin Mott posted a video to Facebook testing out the theory that sidewalks and parking lots were turned into skating rinks.
When he first saw the freezing rain around 3 a.m., he couldn’t go back to sleep, he said. So he decided to lace up his skates.
“Sure enough it was perfect conditions, just a perfect flood. I haven’t had that since I was a kid,” Mott explained.
He said it brought back fond memories of skating on sloughs when he was growing up in the small town of Creelman, Sask., southeast of Regina.
Mott said he hopes everyone else will stay safe on the ice.
