A collision between a train and an SUV northeast of Regina sent five people to the hospital Thursday afternoon.
One of the five people has serious injuries, while the remaining four also sustained injuries.
In a written release the RCMP said the SUV collided with the train as it drove southbound on grid road 640, just northwest of Edenwold.
A CJME reporter on the scene described the SUV as mangled.
Police said the collision happened as the train crossed over the grid road.
The road was closed for several hours as an RCMP collision reconstructionist analyzed the scene. After consultation with the CN Railway police, White Butte RCMP will be taking the lead on the investigation into the exact circumstances and cause of the crash.
