As the province works towards balancing the budget, it has a new source of revenue: legal marijuana.
But Finance Minister Donna Harpauer says it’s too early to tell how much money is rolling in.
“I would imagine in the upcoming budget we’re going to have a projection of what that might be in the next year,” she explained, while presenting the province’s mid-year financial report last Thursday.
“However, there is no data at this point in time to use to figure out what that number’s going to be.”
Harpauer listed the federal government’s later-than-expected weed legalization and pot shops’ supply issues as a couple reasons why there’s no figures to work with.
Canada legalized marijuana on Oct. 17. Since then, only a handful of legal cannabis stores have opened across Saskatchewan.
