High School basketball in the Queen City is in full swing, with three tournaments taking place over the weekend in Regina.
Senior girls and boys teams were in action at the O’Neill basketball classic.
The winner on the girls’ side was the host O’Neill team, who went 3-0 on the weekend. The boys’ side saw Miller win with a 2-1 record, their only loss coming against O’Neill.
Martin Collegiate also hosted a tournament on the weekend for junior and senior boys. The host Monarchs ended up winning both tournaments.

Miller Comprehensive was the third school hosting a tournament, with teams in the junior girls and junior boys divisions.
Miller won the boys side after beating Campbell in the finals. Winston Knoll took first place after defeating Miller in the finals in the girl’s tournament.
Cougars sweep MacEwan in women’s, men’s basketball
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams ended off the first half of their Canada-West schedules with weekend sweeps of MacEwan.
The women’s team, ranked at number nine in the nation, started off the weekend with a major 67-33 win Friday night. The team was down by five points in the second quarter but outscored MacEwan 39-9 in the second half.
Carolina Goncalves, last season’s U Sports Rookie of the Year, led the charge for the Cougars on Saturday. Her 23 points helped lead the Cougars to an 86-28 win to push the team’s winning streak to six games.

The men’s team have now won seven of their last eight Canada-West games following their sweep over MacEwan. On Friday, the team got out to an early 11-0 run and never looked back, winning 86-58.
While the game was closer on Saturday – with it being a one-possession game well into the fourth quarter – the men’s team completed the sweep with an 86-79 victory.

Cougars hockey splits weekend series with Mount Royal
Both the men’s and women’s hockey teams split their series with Mount Royal over the weekend.
The men’s team suffered its worst loss in almost 18 years on Friday, with Mount Royal scoring double-digit goals, winning 12-2.
The team bounced back Saturday with a double-overtime win thanks to a goal from Arthur Miller. The 2-1 win snapped a nine-game losing streak for the Cougars.

The women’s team is now just a point back of the U of S Huskies for fourth-place in Canada-West following their weekend split with Mount Royal.
The team lost a double-overtime duel 4-3 Friday. On Saturday, the team bounced back with a shutout performance from Morgan baker en route to a 3-0 win.
