The Seattle NHL franchise will hit the ice in 2021 and it’ll be interesting to see what type of lineup they have on night one.
They’ll have the same rules in their expansion draft as the Vegas Golden Knights had. The Knights formed a roster that was good enough and inspired enough to go on a magical run to the Stanley Cup Final.
But Seattle has one thing against them. Just that. Vegas’ success in year one will have general managers around the NHL thinking differently when dealing with the expansion draft.
GMs were trading players to Vegas so Vegas would pick a certain player in the expansion draft or wouldn’t pick a certain player the other team had to leave unprotected.
Vegas loaded up on prospects and picks.
With the knowledge that maybe they gave a little bit too much to Vegas, teams may reconsider their strategy and allow Vegas to pick whoever they want and not build up Vegas’ assets to make other deals.
So don’t expect Seattle to be in the Cup final in the spring of 2022.
