The shoe is on the other foot now for CFL football operations people and I’m sure there are players that feel zero sympathy.
Players in the CFL for the last decade have been asked to take pay cuts or were outright cut for the team to comply with the salary cap.
Wednesday we found out that Riders assistant vice president of football operations John Murphy suffered a similar fate. He had to take a 10 per cent pay cut or they had to part ways.
Murphy chose the latter and is now looking for work elsewhere.
I’m sure players like Weston Dressler, John Chick, Darian Durant and Zach Collaros aren’t feeling too much sympathy for a guy who requested the same of them. The latter two took those pay cuts.
As much as I disagree with the salary cap in the CFL now placed on football operations, I do agree with the Riders taking a hard line with Murphy.
Others in football operations took their cuts to stay a part of the team. Murphy couldn’t be seen as getting special treatment.
