The CFL is off to a good start when it comes to disclosing negotiation list players. In the past, this list of protected players was off-limits for public consumption.
Why? The general managers always had a lot of excuses that never really added up to beating the argument that disclosing the list publically would benefit the league with fan engagement.
At a time when the popularity of college football continues to grow, it’s even more sensible to make the list public so we could all watch a possible future Roughrider play for Notre Dame or Alabama, especially during Bowl season.
The past year, the CFL has started teasing fans with 10 players here and there on the negotiation list. The Riders released the names of four quarterbacks on their list, who are all playing in Bowl games.
And just like that, I’m circling bowl games and dates to watch them. Maybe they’ll never come to Canada. Maybe they will. But it’s good to watch some prospects to get a sense of who they are if they do sign.
I just wish we got to see the full list, but baby steps.
