Police confirmed Thursday the body found in northwest Regina last week was the 19-year-old rugby player missing since November.
Promise Chukwudum – also known as Max – had last been seen at a house party in mid-November. Multiple search requests, vigils and public rallies were held as well.
On Dec. 21, police were called to the area of the 5000 block of Sherwood Drive for reports of a man who appeared to be dead.
Officers secured the immediate area and requested additional resources, including the Coroner.
A search that was supposed to be held on Dec. 22 was cancelled.
Police said it was not possible until a week after the body was found to publicly confirm the body was Chukwudum in order to allow time to notify his immediate family.
Regina police and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service are conducting an investigation into his death to determine how he died. There are still tasks to be carried out by police, which will take months to complete.
Police said at this time, there is no indication his death is a result of criminal action.
Anyone with information surrounding his death are asked to contact Regina police at 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
