A Preeceville man is facing charges following an alleged break-and-enter and sexual assault last December.
According to Yorkton RCMP, around 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 18, 2017, a masked man forced his way into a Preeceville home and sexually assaulted a woman inside while armed with a gun.
Her child was in the home at the time of the incident.
RCMP said the initial investigation led to the arrest of a different man from the community.
Those charges were dropped in March.
“The investigation continued, as all investigations do, after the arrest to ensure all the evidence was examined and investigational avenues were thoroughly explored,” Yorkton RCMP wrote in a news release Saturday.
“During the course of the investigation, the initial suspect was cleared by police and he was found to have no involvement whatsoever in the offences.”
After further investigation, on Dec. 28, Preeceville’s Shawn Pasiechnik, 20, was arrested in connection to the incident.
Pasiechnik is facing a number of charges — including sexual assault with a weapon, pointing a firearm and forcible confinement.
He will be in Yorkton provincial court on Monday.
