The Leader RCMP detachment is asking for information to help solve a Saskatchewan cattle heist.
RCMP said 21 calves were stolen from a property near Prelate which is a village about 145 kilometres northwest of Swift Current. Police said the cattle were stolen sometime in November 2018.
The total value of the calves in the initial theft report is $30,000, according to the detachment’s acting commander, Foster Brunanski.
He said his unit just heard of the theft from the cattle owner last week.
The type of theft is uncommon for his detachment to deal with, he said.
Each animal was tagged and branded with the letters “HE” on the right rib.
Brunanski said farmers and livestock owners should be on the lookout for calves with the HE brand that may be “missing the requisite registration forms.”
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
