Skate sessions at Regina’s downtown rink will get a little extra kick to them with some upcoming theme nights.
Regina Downtown Business Improvement District (RDBID) will once again be holding an 80s theme skating night after the success of last year’s event.
“About 500 people came out, so it was huge,” Lindsay Desrochers, visitor services manager with RDBID, told the 980 CJME Greg Morgan Morning Show. “Maybe we can break that record this year.”
The event will take place on Jan. 17 at the outdoor rink in City Square Plaza. Desrochers says they encourage everyone to dress up and take part in the event.
“People just skate and have a great time,” she said.
It’s free to use the rink and there’s a heated rink shack on site that has water.
Skate rentals are also free.
“You just come up, you tell us your size, our staff gives you your skates and you return them when you’re done,” Desrochers said.
A Light the Night theme is also planned for Jan. 24 where skaters are encouraged to wear neon colours and glow sticks.
The rink is open from 1-5 p.m. on weekends and in the evenings from 6-9 p.m. during the week.
