The NHL Players Association should be salivating on what they could get out of the owners and Gary Bettman.
It would appear they have all the leverage right now as the league desperately wants to run another World Cup of Hockey in 2020 and of course, the Seattle franchise is about to start and the young Vegas Golden Knights don’t need any type of work stoppage with the NFL about to land in their market.
The PA and the league are partners of course in the World Cup of Hockey and both profit off the mini-international tournament.
But the league has more to lose in some fledgling markets and new markets than the players would have.
Bettman has already said he hopes it doesn’t turn into a fight and they can find labour peace with both sides being able to walk away from the deal as the opt-out deadline is September of this year.
Fans all hope they can finally do a deal without a work stoppage. So do owners and players.
But maybe the players can re-work the current CBA to pay less into Escrow and get the Olympics back for 2022.
