Greg Jacobs is the external communications manager at SaskTel. He said the issue was intermittent and only preventing some calls from going through.
“If customers are having issues getting through for long-distance or toll-free calling, what we recommend is that they hang up, wait a few minutes, and try again. Because the issues are intermittent, sometimes those calls will go through if you try again,” Jacobs said.
The Regina Police Service also sent out a tweet about the SaskTel outage affecting the phone lines there. Police said they’re having trouble with the main phone line, 306-777-6500. The 911 emergency phone service was not impacted, but is only meant for emergencies.
ADVISORY: we are experiencing some problems with our admin phone line 306-777-6500. Our 9-1-1 service is not affected, but please do not use 9-1-1 for non-emergencies. We are working with @SaskTel to resolve this issue. We'll advise when all is back to business as usual.

The main Saskatoon police non-emergency phone line was also impacted by the issue. The police are asking people to either wait until the phone line is fixed or report in person to the police station. In the event of an emergency, 911 is still working.
