As some pieces get put into place for the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ upcoming season, the next urgent matter will be quarterback.
Who is going to be the CFL team’s starting quarterback? Darian Durant, who was traded away in 2017, hinted on the Green Zone that he’s still interested in playing football. Because it would be inexpensive and risk-free, there’s no reason for the Roughriders to not look at Durant as a potential starter or backup. But they need to have other options.
Free-agent-to-be Mike Reilly appeared to be a target the Roughriders could woo away from the Edmonton Eskimos. Reilly seems like a longshot now that his former coach in Edmonton, Chris Jones, just walked away from Saskatchewan’s top job to join the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. The Roughriders have since been scrambled to fill all of Jones’ roles.
Stable football teams attract good players, good quarterbacks. Once the Roughriders get stabilized from top to bottom they will have a chance to attract a bona fide quarterback.
