Despite executive committee requesting a new report on aspects of ride-sharing, Regina’s mayor doesn’t think it will delay their decision on bringing it to the Queen City.
During a meeting on Jan. 16, members wanted a report to be done on including mandatory cameras and minimum fares for ride-sharing vehicles.
While it might seem like council is taking longer to make a decision on the issue, Mayor Michael Fougere told the 980 CJME Greg Morgan Morning Show that’s not the case.
“The government put the regulations in mid-December, and the first opportunity for council to act on those regulations was executive committee last week,” Fougere said.
He said the committee did have a couple of questions about safety and other things but that will not change the schedule of making a decision.
Fougere said the January council meeting will be a long one but he hopes a decision is made.
“My view, and I hope, is that on Monday night we will pass the report and the bylaw will take a bit of time to craft because you want to talk to the industry about some of the technicalities so we expect by March 1 that we will have ride-share operating within the city.”
Council will meet on Jan. 28.
