Doctor has license suspended due to improper billing

A Regina doctor is having his license suspended and will be paying a fine after being found guilty of improper billing practices that took place over a span of six years.

Dr. Tineyi Chikukwa was charged on Dec. 1, 2018 with a number of improper billing offences by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan.

He was accused of causing or permitting excessive billing to the province’s Medical Services Branch and billing for services that weren’t provided. The offences took place from 2009 to 2015.

The college determined Dr. Chikukwa was guilty. It has suspended his license for four months, beginning on Feb. 1, 2019, and will pay fines totaling $16,382.36. If he’s unable to pay the fines, he will have his license suspended until they are paid in full.

He will also be required to complete an ethics course on professionalism.
