I’ve already spoken about how the NFL can learn from the CFL after the missed pass interference call in the NFC Championship game.
But Ben Watson of the Saints points out about the silence of someone in particular after the missed call turned the tide of that game: The Commissioner.
Roger Goodell has either had his jaw wired shut recently or chooses to ignore one of the worst officiating blunders in NFL history.
So here’s another thing the NFL can take from the CFL, a commissioner who is up front, honest and accountable for the product of the game. Officiating is part of that.
Randy Ambrosie joined the Green Zone the Monday after a missed head shot on Brandon Bridge in the West Semi-Final the previous day.
Ambrosie was honest that a call was missed and that the league needed to do something. Fan outrage cooled after hearing the commissioner at least acknowledge the mistake. And the league, wouldn’t you know, made a change for the final three games of the season to ensure a mistake like that didn’t happen again.
In the NFL? Not a word from the man on top.
