Hats off to Connor McDavid for stepping up and fielding questions during the all-star break in San Jose. The 22-year-old Edmonton Oilers leader told reporters he didn’t want to get into the team’s personnel changes this season, but did say he was looking forward to the chance to prove people wrong.
The Oilers next game is this Saturday in Philadelphia and the team will have a different GM and a different coach in place than it did when the season started.
There is no excuse for a team like the Oilers to be three games under .500 fifty games into the season. I believe McDavid’s message to his mates is that they entered the all-star break just three points out of a playoff spot.
There is still time to secure a postseason spot. McDavid’s response is something that should empower teammates in the middle of a tumultuous season.
A playoff appearance, even if it’s a brief one, would represent a much needed moral victory for the Oilers.
