Council retroactively slashed $1.33 million in rent owed by the Roughriders.
As the new marijuana roadside testing device is distributed to police forces across Saskatchewan, the Regina Police Service has received one of its own.
The Drager DrugTest 5000 can confirm a presence of cannabis or cocaine in a driver’s system but does not show the level of impairment.
Police Chief Evan Bray said they are in the process of determining how to use the new device.
“At this point, we’re thinking it might be used on a more project-based front as opposed to just putting it in a police car and driving it around through the night with it in the car,” said Evan Bray.
The device is meant to act as another tool in addition to the existing Drug Recognition Experts (DRE) who use a scientific 12-step process to prove impairment following a field sobriety test.
“I’m thankful that we haven’t had a lot of incidents involving drug-impaired driving due to marijuana in the city since (legalization).”
Bray said police are planning an media event in the near future to further show how the Drager DrugTest 5000 works.
