After a brief respite from the frigid temperatures, a large chunk of southern Saskatchewan is once again under extreme cold warnings Tuesday.
Areas including Regina, Swift Current, Saskatoon, Kindersley and all the way up to Meadow Lake are expected to see wind chills below -40 C.
An arctic ridge of high pressure has anchored itself over the province.
Environment Canada’s David Baggaley said those extreme wind chills were expected to last a good chunk of Tuesday morning.
“We’re looking at temperatures to remain below normal for the rest of the day, looking around the -20 mark for most of southern Saskatchewan today,” said Baggaley.
He said the extreme cold warning should be lifted late Tuesday morning or early in the afternoon; but he noted Saskatoon could once again get an extreme cold Tuesday evening.
Baggaley said there’s a weather system that could make its way from the southwest into the province at some point, but said it’s too early to tell what that may bring.
“It does not look like a major one but the only good thing about those is that it will bring a little bit of snow and a moderation of temperatures.”
He said February usually sees higher temperatures than what the province has been seeing, with highs usually around -7 or -8.
