An elite CFL quarterback goes for $700,000 per season. I find this to be an interesting development with the current collective bargaining agreement set to expire in May. Back in 2014 negotiations between the
league and the players association were hardly smooth, although a labour disruption was avoided. At the time players wanted to see the minimum salaries come up.
The current CBA expires in May, and negotiations are expected to start next month. The back and forth has already started. The league has instructed teams not give out signing bonuses until a new collective bargaining agreement has been reached while the players have said they will wear players association gear instead of team gear at public events.
Five years ago there were a number of players who didn’t think they received their share of a new $40 million, five-year television contract. If the majority of players don’t see a noticeable bump this time, with elite quarterbacks making much as $100,000 per season as compared to two years ago, negotiations may not be all that smooth this time around either.
