A Melville, Sask. man appears to be getting the last laugh after SGI denied him a custom licence plate.
David Assman (pronounced Oss-man), wanted to get his last name on a vanity plate, but was denied by the provincial insurer over concerns it would be offensive when read.
Assman appealed the decision and lost, prompting him to pursue other means of immortalizing his last name on his vehicle.
On his Facebook page, Assman posted a photo of his truck outfitted with an “ASSMAN” decal stylized to look like a Saskatchewan license plate.
“After I got denied I was just thinking what a guy could do to just show them it’s not bad, just because you’re last name sounds like Assman,” he said while speaking with Rawlco Radios’ Z99.
“I could have got a plate for the front but I really wanted a vanity plate on the back of my truck !” Assman wrote on Facebook.
“I see more people like it than take offence to it. That’s sort of the reason that I did it too, was to prove a point: For every odd one that think it’ll be offensive, another 20 or 30 will like it better. I don’t care whoever sees it. That’s why I posted it,” he said.
It appears SGI is taking Assman’s cheeky gesture in stride. After the photo made it onto Twitter, the company’s account responded by saying “all’s well that end’s well.”
All’s well that ends well. 🙂
