Construction on a large cannabis production facility just north of Regina is nearing completion.
OneLeaf Cannabis Corp. Chief Operating Officer, Mike Templeton, said construction will wrap up in the next 60 to 70 days. Once it’s complete, it will file papers for a licence with Health Canada, moving toward production later this year.
“We’re hoping sometime mid-summer, early fall before we’ll be in production,” said Templeton.
It will take an additional 90 days before OneLeaf will be able to start shipping product.
To start, Templeton explained the main focus will be on medicinal marijuana but is interested in entering the recreational marijuana market by late 2019. It will first be a national supplier until it can obtain a sales licence to sell to individual patients.
“We will be just looking at bulk sales to other businesses that have sales licences across Canada,” said Templeton.
The production facility will produce about 6,000 kg per year. OneLeaf also has an additional 30,000 square feet of space that is not developed. Templeton said they’re looking into using that space for cultivation.
OneLeaf has hired eight employees at the facility but expects to have a total of 20 employees by the time it’s fully operational.
