In the ongoing dispute over who will have the world’s tallest moose statue, a Nova Scotia musician has released a song rejecting Norway’s offer to share the title with Moose Jaw.
Dave Carroll is previously known for writing the viral song “United Breaks Guitars” in response to an instrument of his being damaged by an airline.
He waded into the moose dispute after hearing that a Norwegian band released a song about it.
“I thought that’s kind of getting into my territory and sounds like too much fun to pass up,” Carroll told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Tuesday.
It took just a day for Carroll to write the song and gather his band in Halifax to record it.
Morgan asked Carroll if he was worried about ever being unwelcome in Norway.
Since uploading the song to Facebook, Carroll said he’s been watching the comments closely, adding that there have been 52,000 views.
“The Norwegians are starting to appear unsettled by it. But I heard from the sculptor of the big elk, and she actually said she liked our song better than theirs, so I think we’re OK,” he said.
In Canada, the song has been a hit.
“From coast to coast, I’m getting all sorts of mail from people that are as fired up about this as I am, and we got to do something as Canadians to help get this going,” Carroll said.
Tourism Moose Jaw’s plan is to give Mac the Moose a new set of antlers to reclaim the title of being the world’s tallest moose statue.
The mayor of the Norwegian town that built the statue to dethrone Mac is expected to be in Moose Jaw later this month.
