San Diego would be the best city to live in, if you had to live in the United States.
Maybe avoid the SeaWorld gondola ride, which broke down the other night, but otherwise my favourite U.S. city has all the requirements: Great golf courses, particularly Torrey Pines, and a Major League Baseball team that just signed free-agent infielder Manny Machado to a 10-year, $300-million contract. The San Diego Padres may be a year or two away from challenging for a World Series, but they can do it in a city that wholeheartedly supports the franchise after the carpet-bag departure of their NFL team, the Chargers. Machado’s signing has reportedly brought great joy to San Diego’s wonderful baseball fans.
I used to regularly visit San Diego on vacations, to enjoy golfing, baseball games and SeaWorld. Not that anybody cares, but I’ll keep turning down invitations for U.S. trips until the Americans dump their current president. Hey, I also don’t shop at Walmart, so you can see the underwhelming power of my boycotts. I still cheer for the Milwaukee Brewers, but I can hope the Padres do well enough to convince me to visit California again. In a couple years.
