The cold war between Moose Jaw and a Norwegian city over the title of world’s tallest moose may be thawing.
The City of Moose Jaw announced Monday that Linda Otnes Henriksen – the deputy mayor of Stor-Elvdal, Norway – is to visit the Saskatchewan city later this week for what Moose Jaw called a “moose summit.”
Henriksen is to arrive in Moose Jaw on Friday and will stay through March 6. During her visit, she’s to meet with city representatives, attend a Moose Jaw Warriors WHL game, tour some schools and visit Mac the Moose.
The battle between Mac the Moose and Storelgen has prompted a back-and-forth between the towns as well as songs by artists from both countries. Storelgen is 30 centimetres taller than Mac, which has caused a movement to change the height of Moose Jaw’s statue.
“We are excited to welcome Ms. Henriksen to Moose Jaw,” Mayor Fraser Tolmie said in a media release. “Although she has suggested the possibility of the two moose becoming equal in size, we can’t ignore the overwhelming financial and emotional support that has been offered in the name of making Mac the world’s tallest moose statue.”
