The extreme cold warning is over in Regina, but many people probably still feel like staying inside.
One place where they can go to warm up is the RCMP Heritage Centre, where marketing director Jessica Tiefenbach said there’s plenty to see.
“We’ve got museums full of interesting historical artifacts celebrating the RCMP’s contribution to the development of Canada,” Tiefenbach said.
For a more hands-on experience, the Heritage Centre has some interactive exhibits as well.
To escape the cold, visitors can burn rubber behind the wheel of a police car — in virtual reality.
“We have a driving simulator and it was a former police vehicle. Now you can test your hand on the driving track,” Tiefenbach said.
Also in VR, visitors can saddle up and join the RCMP Musical Ride.
“It’s an engaging way to really experience it first-hand. You can tour the gallery, learn about the Musical Ride, the horses that are part of it, and then you get to experience it yourself,” she said.
From Tuesdays to Fridays starting at noon, visitors can attend the Sergeant Major’s Parade, where cadets march and get inspected.
It’s a glimpse into what aspiring officers are doing inside Depot Division.
“It’s a visual for people to experience the training side of cadets because all of that happens behind closed doors at Depot,” Tiefenbach said.
If the parade is something visitors are planning to attend, Tiefenbach recommends budgeting a few hours at the Heritage Centre. If not, then they should expect to spend at least an hour or two at the centre.
