Surrender, CFL.
There’s nothing wrong with turning Sundays over to the NFL. The NFL is a sporting juggernaut; it owns Sundays throughout the U.S. and Canada, live and on television. It also stakes claims on Monday and Thursday Night Football.
The CFL doesn’t have to fight. Last season, the CFL started moving its regular-season games away from the conflict. This year, there are only two regular-season CFL games slated for Sundays. And the CFL looks ready to move its playoffs from Sundays to Saturdays. CFL teams believe their best home dates are Saturdays, a claim supported by TV ratings.
Friday Night Football has also been good for the CFL. By concentrating games on Friday and Saturday nights, the CFL would avoid scheduling conflicts with Canadian college football, which traditionally plays Saturday afternoons. So stake that claim, CFL. Stay away from Sundays, own Saturdays. And don’t be afraid to move future Grey Cup games to Saturday as well. Most of your fans should appreciate it.
