Residents near the intersection of Pasqua Street and Victoria Avenue have been pretty patient about a water leak they say has been flowing for weeks now.
Reva Kom said she noticed it last week and called the city.
“There’s not much I can do about it,” said Kom. “(The city) just said they would come, sometime.”
Divia Mayer, who lives nearby, also put in a call. She said the leak has been running for two to three weeks.
“They looked at it and that’s about it,” said Mayer. “They can only do so much.”
On Monday, the city said it dealt with 52 water main breaks in February, a new record. The five-year average for the month is 17.
To make sure residents still have water service, the city lets the leaks run as long as they don’t pose a risk to public safety.
The city’s director of water, water and environmental services, Pat Wilson, said there were about 60 leaks running.
Crews will be fixing the most serious breaks first, the city said.
Kom said there was a leak at the Victoria and Pasqua location a year ago. She said crews fixed it promptly.
“I’m actually glad I didn’t do anything to fix the lawn because last year … they piled a bunch of gravel there,” she said.
