An evening fire in Lemberg has levelled the town’s hotel.
Lemberg fire chief Dennis Dixon said the fire broke out around 6:45 p.m. Monday. He said from there, it was all hands on deck to keep the flames from spreading.
“I want to say ‘thank you’ to the crew from Neudorf. They came in right away,” he said.
No one was injured in the fire, but Dixon said losing the hotel will be devastating for many people in the town.
“Yeah, it was the main bar and it had a cafe,” he said. “There’s really just the chimney standing now … it was a tin roof and walls.”
On Tuesday morning, Lemberg firefighters were on scene to monitor the remnants of the hotel and put out any hot spots, Dixon said.
The town is about 120 kilometres east of Regina.
The hotel was built in 1963, and then opened in 1964 by Clara and Ted Brockmeyer. They owned and operated it for six years before selling it and moving to Moose Jaw.
