As the spring season nears, the outdoor rink one is almost finished in Regina.
With the warmer temperatures starting to melt away the snow and ice, the city stopped maintaining most of its outdoor rinks on March 8.
The only rink that remains open is downtown at the City Square Plaza — and that one will close on Friday.
“Things are melting so there’s probably portions of the rink that are still skateable, but the parts that are in the sun are starting to be a little soft, at least during the day,” said Charmaine Neufeld, manager of parks maintenance with the City of Regina.
She said the outdoor rink program normally runs for nine weeks, so it was supposed to have ended a few weeks ago.
“Because we had so many cold-weather days this year, we used those days and sort of extended the program at the end so people could skate when there is warmer weather,” Neufeld said.
She said the city doesn’t lock the rinks, but people should use their judgment as to whether or not it’s safe for them to be out on the rink.
