The great Canadian debate has returned after the first negotiating session between the CFL Players’ Association and the league.
The debate is how many Canadians should be on a CFL roster and how many should be starters?
The 3 Down Nation report indicated both sides are open to moving the starters down to five from the current seven.
And quickly, opinions formulated. One school believes this is blasphemy and would kill what makes the CFL so special — the Canadians.
Another believes this is a solid move with the possibility of a 10th team and that the Canadian depth in the league is suffering since Ottawa came on board and will suffer more if the Atlantic Schooners field a team.
There are those who don’t care if there are any Canadians. And then there are those who don’t even know what the ratio is.
But save me any nationalistic protectionism. You won’t actually care what the passports are when someone crosses the goal line, sacks the QB or makes a big play to help the team win.
